M Cellars Winery Where The M Should Stand for Magnificent

Cheers everyone! It's Gadabout Gal Michele and I'm thrilled to be writing about one of my favorite wineries in northeast Ohio. I grew up around the Grand River Valley Region and over the years this lovely stretch of land along Lake Erie has blossomed into a beautiful area filled with grape growing and wine production, delicious wine production at that! Every time I head back to visit my family wine tasting is always on our agenda and M Cellars is always on the top of our list!

At the end of October it was my pleasure to play tour guide to my Gadabout Gal pals, Tiffany and Kelly, and not only introduce them to this Ohio wine region, but share with them a few of my favorites. It was no surprise that M Cellars was on our Day 1 tasting agenda.

Upon walking into the tasting room you immediately get a sense of comfort with the warm colors, rich wood and brick fireplace. You are also exposed to their wines that are displayed on the wall right next to the tasting counter (and with all the different varietals you can quickly see that they know what they are doing). We couldn't wait to start sipping, but first we headed downstairs to meet owner Matt Meineke to see where all the wine making, barrel aging magic happens.

As you will see in the video clip, Matt started his love of winemaking as a hobby. From their garage in 2003, to the opening of the winery in 2012, Matt and Tara's passion for winemaking grew from their trips to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Take a moment to pour yourself a glass of wine, relax and then watch this short video of Matt.

After our conversation, Matt took us back upstairs to do some tasting. Needless to say, we were pretty excited. To have Matt pour and take us through a good bit of his wines was a real treat! We learned how they were made, how they were named (a couple after his super cute daughters), their different notes, and how they could be paired. We started with a bubbly and sipped our through a delicious assortment. Each wine full of flavor and honestly we liked every single one we tasted!

I'm usually a red wine drinker or a citrusy Sauvignon Blanc drinker in the summer, so when I tell you that the Estate Rkatsiteli is one of my favorite M Cellar wines most who know me would be surprised. But there is something about the uniqueness of this grape (that is grown right there on Route 307) that has captured my tastebuds. It's a dry, aromatic white grape variety originated in the Republic of Georgia (yes, a grape near Russia).

At the conclusion of the tasting we all purchased many bottles of wine. Since I've been home I've already enjoyed the Pinot Noir and on this cold Friday night I plan on opening the bottle of their Estate Meritage to enjoy by the fire.

Thanks Matt for being an incredible host and for sharing your love of wines with us. This is an experience we will truly treasure and we recommend M Cellars to everyone we know. What a delicious wine destination you have created and we LOVE to support local!
