Building A Bridge

During Michele's recent visit to Texas, the Gadabout Gals wanted to to continue the tradition of offering goodwill. Tiffany knew of the perfect organization within her little town of Burton, Texas! The Burton Bridge Ministry is an impressive non-profit making a big impact on a tiny rural community.

The Burton Bridge Ministry's mission is to build a bridge between racial, cultural, educational, and economic divisions within the community. Formed in 2010 by 13 inspired churches, they have been sharing God's love through action and giving.  Bridge Ministry of Burton Texas is a community-based 501c(3) nonprofit. They serve the community with five ministry teams:  children and youth, seniors, manna, helping hands, and community relations.

In 2017, they had more than 60 volunteers posting in excess of 12,000 hours.  Their accomplishments include:

  • 2-week day camp for 90 elementary school children

  • Christmas toys and food baskets

  • Weekly food assistance for more than 50 families

  • Low-cost or free meals to more than 60 seniors each week

  • Repairs to area homes, and

  • Free Thanksgiving Dinner

Tiffany has witnessed the ministry action in several ways throughout her community. Each ministry is led by people with genuine passion for their community. Tiffany had the opportunity to volunteer at the Manna Ministry's food pantry a couple times, which had a huge impact on her. The care and dignity offered to the clients is heartwarming! The youth camps offered every summer are well attended. She loves the Corner Shoppe thrift store ran by Bridge Ministry volunteers! A community garden was created this year that has been harvested to bless the community. It is endearing when the small churches come together to minister in ways they can't do alone.

Michele and Tiffany were given the task to pick from the community garden and deliver the harvest to the senior breakfast that Friday morning.

Truth be known, there wasn't much to pick that morning. Mother Nature didn't cooperate with our good intentions. Our Gadabout Goodwilll for this trip is to create awareness. Many small communities around the United States have grass roots organizations that could use your support. Please take a second to check out this mighty ministry building a bridge for the tiny rural community of Burton, Texas!
